The Assumption Cathedral is the main church of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra and the first stone building on its territory. Its history spans nearly a thousand years, during which it has witnessed many turbulent events in the formation of our state.

Within its walls, the memory is engraved of the flourishing of Kyivan Rus, the devastating raids of nomads, the era of Kostyantyn Ostrozky and the glory of Ukrainian hetmans, the oppression of Ukrainians by the Muscovites, the fascist occupation and the dark Soviet times, and ultimately the revival of Ukraine's independence.
