The Assumption Cathedral is the main church of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and the first stone structure built on its territory. Its history spans nearly a thousand years, and throughout this time it has witnessed many turbulent events on the path of the formation of our state.

Within its walls is preserved the memory of the flourishing of Kyivan Rus, the devastating invasions of nomadic tribes, the era of Kostiantyn Ostrozkyi and the glory of the Ukrainian hetmans, the oppression of Ukrainians by Muscovites, the Nazi occupation and the dark Soviet times, and ultimately the revival of Ukraine’s independence.
